Lage Raho Munnabhai Review

Until now, I have seen art movies or so called parellel cinema has conveyed some message but always in a very borning manner. I have seen Shabana Azmi playing a whore with Naseer Bhai playing Dungrus in Mandi. I have seen Kulbhushan Kharbanda giving hard time to both Smitha Patil and Shabana Azmi hard time in Arth. I heard Satyajeet Ray movies were really inspiring but I never dared to watch any of his movies after seeing extremely borning "Satyajeet Ray Presents" on Doordarshan.

I liked Bunty and Bubly which became my favorite so far but I never got a message from the movie. My past favorites have been Sholey or Lagaan or Hera Pheri but none of them gave me a message and honestly speaking-I never expected them to give me a message.

Now comes Lage Raho and it comes like a coole breeze in the hot air flowing in the country. In short (I could have sat three more hours) three hours, it kept me full of laughter and kept conveying me the philosophy of Gandhi like a homeopathy medicine which tastes very sweet and cures from the root of the illness.

I remember showing my nine year old Son Richard Attenborough's Gandhi. He saw it but I could see him not paying too much attention. I blamed his immaturity and small age for that. Recently, we went to watch "Lage Raho" and when we came back, he had Gandhi's philosophy deep into his heart. He talks about that, he tells his friends about this and he wants to watch the movie again like he did about the Spiderman-II movie two years back.

I myself would consider a novice to Gandhian Philosophy after watching "Lage Raho.." and realized that what I have learned so far in my 36 years of life, was just how Gandhi got independence to our country from Britishers. Never thought Gandhism (I tend to start calling it Gandhigiri now) can be applied to the day to day life.

My maternal grandfather was an associate of Gandhi. I heard about him thru my mother that he never scolded his children. He just used to stop talking or cry after seeing any of his children commiting any mistake for instance when my mother in her childhood lied to him for something. I also heard him giving up food (started fasting) after seeing my maternal uncle/aunt beating their son. He didn't touch until my uncle asked for forgiveness from my 5 year old cousin. I just heard all this so I probably took them like stories but watching Munna Bhai has just refreshed all those stories as real life events.

Let us talk about entertainment part now. Circuit is just great! I love circuit. I just wait for him to say something so that I could laugh. It still brings a smile to my face when I think of Circuit asking Batuk Maharaaz (the astrologer)-"Uth terey ko sorry bolney ka hai"-I bet it must have come spontaneously from Arshad Warsi. Munna Bhai is real Munna Bhai and is very appealing. Vidya Balan is just wonderful and I am seeing a future Tabu or Madhuri Dixit in her. Lucky singh didn't impress me a lot-he was better off with his dean job in MBBS.

Was surprised to see Abhishek Bachchan in the last giving a message (about marrying a manglik girl) which he himself seems to have experienced in his real life marriage prospects with Aishwarya Rai.

Overall, this is a wonderful inspiring movie. I wish Mr Vinod Chopra and Mr Hirani make similar movies in future and they make them soon so that I could take my kids to the movies and make them learn something good in a fun way!!

Plus Points: Circuit,
Dialogs "Sorry bolne ka hai" or "Isko yahin dho den", New terminology "Gandhigiri"

Minus Points: Nothing as such! Lucky singh could be a little better.
