It's world women's day today. I am in India on this day and seeing it being celebrated at a huge level. Good to see it being celebrated at a mass level and getting much more visibility than it used to have ten years back. I am watching TV since morning and seeing all the TV channels giving lots of coverage to the Woman's day celebrated across India and the whole world.

A big part of these overages is interviews of common women participating in different events. It really feels good to see common woman involved and being able to voice their views. These interviews had usual stuff like examples and praises of successful women, raising some demands, telling people that they are equal but something which really hurts me and surprises me is the uncontrolled mudslinging on men and completely ignoring a fact that women are also responsible for their own situation.

Let me first apologize for being a man and I swear by god that I had no control over deciding my sex when I was born. Still I have regular interaction with woman as my mother, my wife and my three year old daughter. I try my best to be democratic, respectful to these woman and many others around me as friends, coworkers and families. But at the same time, let me share my observations about the better half of the society. Let me also clarify that I am not favoring men or trying to take sides. I still hate men who commit crimes against the woman be it a small eve teasing event or a big news of rape. Hope, I will be fair when I write rest of this Blog.

Saas-Bahu (mother in law - daughter in law) is the most controversial relationship our country has. We saw examples in news papers, we see the fighting in Ekta Kapoor's serials, we sometimes see in our neighborhood or sometimes in our own families. Let us peek into our own family and neighborhood and find some 10 sets of saas-bahus. Let us count good ones and bad ones. Finished? Can you share the results? Is it not 8 out of 10 which you found as bad? Be it Saas causing grief to Bahu for not bringing enough dowry or be it Bahu torturing saas by capturing all her wealth and giving her a stinky corner of house to her to spend rest of her life. it's very hard to find a Sasur (father in law) has tortured the bahu or damaad (son in law) torturing the saas. Even if they are involved, they are just the accessories and not the main culprit. They mostly end up confessing that they didn't have control over their woman and they did not want to speak against the main culprit. In the past, most of the dowry related murders, suicides, divorces had one woman as a victim and for sure another woman as a culprit.

Not only Saas-bahu, it is also nand (husband's sister) or devrani-jethani (husband's sister in laws) or even sisters sometimes who are not spared from the controversies. All these cases, a woman is the reason behind the grief to the other woman. I don't know, when they understand this, try to understand each other's pain and work together to succeed and win the world.

Let us look at the other parts of society. Talking about extra marital relationships. People might say that it's men who don't allow their wives to go out and create relationship or society does not allow a woman having extra marital relations but when we talk about extra marital relations of men, whom they do affair with? Is it not another woman? Leaving exceptional cases of cheating or frauds, it is the other woman who has full control of the relationship. Why can't she kick the guy who leaves his wife and comes to her even for some platonic love? We have some examples about woman becoming the role models for society, seen everyday making speeches about woman’s power but played bad in their own families-Shabana Azmi, Smita Patil, Hema Malini are all other women for their men who were accomplices in breaking one family to make their own.

Now, talking about a party where there are some ladies talking about (not men but) other ladies. Most of time, you will find talking about other person's dresses, jewelry, hairstyle or the figure. These discussions mostly end up hurting one of the ladies. Worst case, you will find some relations broken, some heated arguments or party divided into groups. No doubt that relations are made because of the woman but most of these relations are also broken because of women.

I really wanted to mention our famous Ekta Kapoor who was shown as one of the most successful women in India, by one of the TV Channels. Let is ask her-what is she doing about women? Look at the TV serials she has made. All the serials have woman vamps spending all their time making atrocities on the poor heroin. If I have to say few words about these TV serials-their objective is to present a bad face of women and at the other side, showing no hope to the good women who never get happiness for the whole life of the TV serial. I really feel pity about the society who considers Ekta Kapoor as their role model and give high rating to their serials.

Now message to women-Please, please, please-first get united, stop hating each other, stop torturing each other and stop trying to compete with each other. Divide and rule policy applies everywhere and it is applying to you all too. Your current situation has only one root cause and that is YOU! No doubts that there are bad men roaming around in the society but they will become a few if you get united and start supporting each other. Appeals to Saases and Bahus Nands and Bhaabhi's, Devraanis and Jethaanis, Padosans (neighbors) and Sahelis (friends)- help creating a beautiful picture of your relationship far from greed and grief and tell the whole society that you are one. You need to respect each other to get respect from the other part of the society.
